A complaint has been filed with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seeking an investigation into alleged money laundering and undisclosed foreign assets linked to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his family.
The complaint, submitted by Swapan Kumar Das, President of the Guwahati City District Congress Committee, calls for the registration of an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). It alleges that large amounts of black money were routed into offshore assets, particularly in Dubai and the United States.
According to the complaint, there are claims of undisclosed properties in Dubai linked to the Chief Minister’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma. The document cites two high-value properties in Dubai’s Al Barsha South area, including a flat and a hotel room, allegedly owned by her.
The complaint further alleges that a US-based company, HRINIKINANDI LLC, registered in Wyoming, is linked to the family. It claims that the company is associated with large-scale financial assets and proposed investments worth billions of dollars, including hospitality projects.
Swapan Das has also questioned why these foreign assets and business interests were not disclosed in the Chief Minister’s election affidavit, calling it a violation of statutory requirements. The complaint alleges that the source of funds for these acquisitions remains unexplained and suggests possible links to proceeds of crime.
In addition, the complaint refers to past allegations and cases, including financial irregularities and land-related issues, claiming that they indicate a pattern of corruption and misuse of power.
The complainant has urged the ED to immediately initiate an investigation, attach the alleged foreign assets, and probe the financial trail. He has also called for the Election Commission to be informed for further action under election laws.
Supporting documents, including Dubai land title deeds and company registration details from Wyoming, have been submitted along with the complaint.
