Police raided the Lilongwe residence of former Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet, Colleen Zamba, on Tuesday, April 1, 2026, as part of a money laundering investigation, but made no arrests or seizures after an hours-long search.
At least 25 officers from the Fiscal Police and Area 30 Police, accompanied by police dogs, searched a house in Area 14 for more than six hours, acting on a warrant issued on March 31, 2026, by the Mkukula First Grade Magistrate Court.
The warrant, obtained by Superintendent Henry Moyo, authorised the search of House Number 168 registered under Babani Mandiza over suspicions that proceeds of money laundering, including illicit foreign currency, could be concealed on the premises.
Zamba’s lawyer, George Kadzipatike, said the officers “searched thoroughly but found nothing incriminating,” and criticised the operation as heavy-handed and based on suspicion rather than concrete evidence.
He warned that such actions could expose the State to legal consequences.
National Police spokesperson Lael Chimtembo could not be reached for comment by press time.
