Police said Tuesday they have dismantled an organised crime network operating in Malta following a coordinated operation that led to the arrest of five Italian nationals and the seizure of drugs, cash, luxury items and a firearm.
The operation, carried out on Monday, targeted foreign criminal networks suspected of involvement in drug trafficking, money laundering and participation in a criminal organisation. Four men and one woman, aged between 27 and 35, were arrested in connection with the investigation.
Searches were conducted simultaneously at several residences in Msida, Sliema and Swieqi. During the searches, police seized approximately 13 kilograms of substances suspected to be cocaine, cannabis resin and cannabis grass, with an estimated street value of €250,000.
Authorities also confiscated luxury clothing and jewellery valued at around €150,000, along with €386,715 in cash. Two vehicles were seized during the operation, as well as a firearm which was later confirmed to have been reported stolen.
A magisterial inquiry has been opened and is being led by Magistrate Dr Monica Borg Galea LL.D, who has appointed a number of experts to assist with the investigation.
Police said investigations are ongoing as they continue to analyse the evidence gathered and probe possible links to wider criminal networks operating both locally and abroad.
