Argentine police carried out a series of raids at the headquarters of the country’s National Football Association and at more than 30 football clubs on Tuesday, a police source who provided the information to CNN said.
According to the same source, federal judge Luis Armella ordered the raids as part of an investigation into a possible money-laundering scheme involving the financial company Sur Finanzas, one of the main sponsors of the Argentine football governing body (AFA).
Sur Finanzas said in a statement last week that all the services it provides comply with current law, and called the allegations unfounded.
A video filmed by CNN and affiliated TN on Tuesday shows uniformed federal police entering the building of the Argentine Football Association in Buenos Aires.
CNN reached out to the AFA for comment and is currently awaiting a reply.
Updates
The investigation is ongoing, additional details are expected, and official comments from the AFA and law enforcement have not been provided at this time. Further updates will be released as new information becomes available.
