The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has initiated a case against former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed and his wife Rukmila Zaman over the alleged laundering of Tk 12 billion to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
The agency claims the laundered funds were used to purchase 226 flats in Dubai, as well as to establish different institutions and invest in businesses there.
The lawsuit, registered on Thursday under the Money Laundering Prevention Act at Kotwali Police Station, names Saifuzzaman and his wife and includes five to seven unnamed people as accomplices, according to the CID’s media statement.
Saifuzzaman is a former MP from Chattogram-13 and the son of late Awami League leader Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu.
