Two daughters of former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, along with his son-in-law, have been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) in connection with a money laundering investigation involving assets valued at over Rs. 194.5 million.
The suspects, Chamithri Jayanika Rambukwella and Amali Nayanika Rambukwella, daughters of the former Minister and Amali’s husband, Isuru Pulasti Bandara Polgasdeniya were taken into custody as part of an ongoing probe under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The investigation pertains to assets exceeding Rs.134 million in value, two luxury residential properties worth Rs. 40 million and a Mercedes-Benz vehicle valued at Rs.20.5 million.
In connection with the case, authorities have also frozen 40 fixed deposit accounts and life insurance investment plans allegedly linked to the accused.
Following the arrest, the suspects were produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, where a two were released on bail while one daughter was remanded for not meeting bail conditions.
